Built for Hong Kong. Focused on Substance.
lionroock was founded on a straightforward premise: organisations in Hong Kong deserve consulting work that is thorough, practical, and written for the people who will act on it.
← Back to HomeA Practice Shaped by the Hong Kong Market
lionroock was established in Wan Chai by a team of advisors who had collectively spent more than two decades working within Hong Kong's financial services, technology, and operations sectors. That background gave us a precise understanding of the decisions organisations here actually face — and the constraints within which they operate.
Over the years, we have refined our practice into three areas where we believe structured consulting adds the most tangible value: understanding and growing customer lifetime value, navigating Hong Kong's evolving regulatory sandbox environment, and redesigning back-office functions that have outgrown their original design.
Our work is deliberate by design. We take on a limited number of engagements at any one time, which means clients receive consistent attention from the same consultants throughout — from initial scoping to final debrief.
Our Mission
To provide Hong Kong organisations with consulting that is genuinely useful — analysis that is specific to their situation, recommendations that are clear in their rationale, and outputs that the client's own team can apply without re-interpretation.
Our Values
- Rigour: We do not work from assumptions we have not tested.
- Clarity: Findings are communicated plainly, not obscured by terminology.
- Accountability: We stand behind the recommendations we make.
- Discretion: Client information is handled with consistent care and respect.

The Consultants You Work With
lionroock operates as a small, senior team. Every engagement is led by a named consultant from start to finish.
Marcus Wong
Managing Director
Marcus leads customer analytics and commercial strategy engagements. He previously held senior roles at two international banks in Hong Kong before founding lionroock in 2013.
Sophie Chan
Regulatory Practice Lead
Sophie heads our Regulatory Sandbox practice. Her background spans seven years in regulatory affairs at the HKMA and subsequent advisory work with fintech firms across the Asia-Pacific region.
James Lau
Operations Principal
James leads Back-Office Transformation engagements. With a background in operations design and shared services across professional services and logistics sectors, he brings a structured, process-first lens to each project.
Quality and Professional Standards
The way we conduct our work reflects how we believe consulting should operate — carefully, consistently, and with the client's interests placed first.
Data Confidentiality
All client data is handled under signed NDA and stored in controlled environments. No client information is shared with or referenced in work for other clients.
Professional Certification
Our consultants hold relevant professional qualifications including CPA (HKICPA), CFA, and professional memberships with the Management Consultancies Association.
Scope Discipline
Every engagement is governed by a formal scope document agreed before work commences. Changes to scope are discussed openly and documented with any associated fee implications.
No Conflict of Interest
We conduct a conflict of interest review before accepting any new engagement. Where a potential conflict exists, we disclose it fully before proceeding.
Documented Methodology
Our analytical frameworks and process methods are documented and reviewed annually. Clients receive full transparency on how conclusions have been reached.
Post-Engagement Review
We ask every client to complete a structured review at engagement close. That feedback shapes how we approach subsequent projects and maintains accountability within our team.
Consulting Grounded in Hong Kong's Commercial Reality
Operating a consulting practice in Hong Kong requires more than analytical competence. It requires a working knowledge of the city's regulatory architecture, its financial market structures, the operational patterns of organisations across sectors, and the cultural expectations that shape how decisions are made and communicated.
lionroock has built its advisory practice within this environment over more than a decade. Our three practice areas — customer value analysis, regulatory sandbox engagement, and back-office transformation — each address a distinct class of challenge that organisations in Hong Kong face with regularity. We have deliberately kept our practice narrow so that the depth of our expertise within each area remains substantive.
Clients who engage lionroock can expect clear communication at every stage of a project, deliverables that are written for the people responsible for acting on them, and a consulting team that treats their organisation's challenges with the same care they would apply to their own.
